The Zeitgeist Movement Now an Official 501c3 Non-Profit Organization

LOS ANGELES, June 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Recognized as the largest social movement in the world with official chapters in over 60 countries, The Zeitgeist Movement (TZM) announces that after 8 years of grassroots operation it is now a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. The work of TZM has been documented by many news agencies over the years, including the New York Times and Huffington Post.

Founded in 2008, The Zeitgeist Movement is predominantly an educational institution that conducts research and public awareness programs in the interest to mature society toward a more sustainable and egalitarian social system. The central areas of focus are improving global public health and stopping destructive economic practices that continue to accelerate social problems due to structural flaws in the logic of market economics.

TZM activist work involves not only disseminating such information about the failures of our current, outdated economic approach and its negative outcomes, but also advocating a train of thought supporting an entirely different method of economic and social organization. This method or approach has come to be termed by many as the pursuit of a "Post-Scarcity" economy.

A Post-Scarcity economy is the general condition where economic and social practice is based upon maximizing technical efficiency and working to reduce relative scarcity as much as possible, allowing for the end of poverty, the reversal of current ecological damage and supporting overall social stabilization and peace by reducing socioeconomic inequality.

As detailed in a video posted by founder Peter Joseph, the structure of the movement as a volunteer-based organization remains fundamentally the same. Any donations made to TZM are not allocated for internal wages but rather external costs and tasks. The board of directors does not take a salary and are also volunteers. This is in contrast to the tradition of most non-profits, which are organized like a business with internal employees.

The public is invited to support the work of The Zeitgeist Movement by tax-deductible donation through its global website: http://thezeitgeistmovement.com/support
