Yosemite in the City: Don't Miss Diverse Summer Programming at California Historical Society as Part of Yosemite: A Storied Landscape Exhibition

Events scheduled in August include special presentations by Ken Yager on the history of climbing, a special viewing of fascinating photographs of Yosemite from the archives of the California Historical Society and a kid's day filled with fun educational activities.

Yosemite: A Storied Landscape highlights a broad collection of stories told through varied perspectives. From the Christmas-time hijinks of the photographer Ansel Adams to the summertime patrols of the post-Civil War–era and African-American Buffalo Soldiers, these tales link the famous with the unknown, the new with the old.

  Come to California Historical Society for fun craft projects and stories related to Yosemite. Make your own bear claws, paws and masks; make your own stationary; enjoy nature sing-alongs at 2:00 p.m. and docent tours throughout the afternoon; and draw your own Keep Animals Wild posters. • Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, 6 p.m.: History Speaks – Ken Yager and the History of Climbing
  Ken Yager, president of the Yosemite Climbing Association, will share the history of rock climbing in Yosemite. Discover what climbing was like in the 1930s, and view items collected by the Yosemite Climbing Association.  The event is free for CHS members, $5 general admission. • Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Night with the Archivists: More Yosemite from the CHS Collections 
  The perspective of Yosemite will be on display with stirring images from the late 19^th century to the early 20^th century produced by Eadweard Muybridge, Carleton Watkins and George Fiske, as well as personal trip albums, and some wonderful amateur photographs.
