Sqeeqee.com offering free social network emails while helping users achieve "networthing" goals
IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Over the course of the past week Yahoo has done all it could to essentially hide from the world any details about the recent, massive outage that shut down its free email service. A little over one week ago Yahoo! Mail users started complaining about being locked out of accounts and having no access.
Worse than being locked out of accounts and having no way to access email services, numerous Yahoo users took the web to complain about the lack of communication from Yahoo about the outage. The first acknowledgement from Yahoo of any problem came via its Twitter account early last week when a tweet went out reading, "We know some of our users are unable to use Yahoo Mail. We're on it and trying to restore access in a few hours. Sorry for the inconvenience."
It would be several days before users heard a peep from Yahoo. A common complaint from users was Yahoo's silence. Users pointed out that Yahoo collects alternate email information from users, yet failed to use it to update account holders on the situation and any progress that might have been made.
The next message from Yahoo didn't come until last Friday when it was announced the POP mail services had been restored, but that IMAP email services were "not yet widely available." Later Friday evening Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer broke her silence on the company's Tumblr page announcing that service had been knocked out by a hardware failure that created a ripple effect for engineers working towards a solution.

Yahoo's email snafu last week was neither its first incident in recent months, nor its worst case of communication mismanagement. It's hard to imagine a worse outage than the one that occurred this past week. Mail service was done for almost three full days for all users, and some third party and mobile app users are still without service as of Monday 16 December.
Inbox messages are missing from as far back as 25 November for some users, and messages sent right before the outage have yet to be delivered for some users. Worse than the outage itself, was Yahoo's complete lack of outreach to users. Updates were infrequent and lacking in helpful information for users.
All of this comes on the heels of a Yahoo Mail makeover in October than enraged a lot of users. The service removed traditional tabs and other features that had been standard on Yahoo Mail for quite some time. Users filed a petition on Change.org to have some of the old features restored, took to Facebook to complain, or went directly to Yahoo with complaints.
With all the recent issues at one of the internet's largest free email providers, the time may have arrived for a shift in the way users think of and use email services. The time might be at hand for a switch to social email.
