Vizibility Survey Reveals Strong Adoption of QR Codes by Legal Professionals

Within 12 Months, 80% of U.S. Law Firms Will Be Using QR Codes

NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2011 — Vizibility Inc. (http://vizibility.com) announced today the results of a survey the company conducted in July and August regarding the use of QR codes by legal professionals. QR ("quick response") codes can be easily scanned by mobile phones and camera-enabled devices to immediately share additional information about companies, products and personnel. According to Mashable, a leading social media news blog, QR codes were scanned by 14 million people in the U.S. during the month of June alone. Vizibility offers personal QR codes that enable professionals to organize and share their online profiles, contact information and business connections through a mobile-friendly, online business card.

To gauge the level of QR code usage in the legal community, Vizibility surveyed attorneys and marketing professionals from top law firms, including the membership of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA). Approximately 60 percent of survey respondents were current LMA members. The study revealed that 85 percent of legal marketers are aware of QR codes, and 35 percent reported that they already use them. The study also found that 45 percent said they plan to begin using QR codes within the next 12 months, making the technology a virtually ubiquitous marketing tool in the legal industry. Survey findings are summarized in the attached infographic or available online at http://infographics.vizibility.com.

A QR code typically points to an online resource. The survey found that 86 percent of law firms plan to use QR codes to market their individual attorneys with more than half pointing individual QR codes to biographical information and contact details. The survey also found that 47 percent plan to use the codes on attorneys' business cards. An overwhelming 94 percent of survey participants view it as important or critical that the QR code point to a site offering a mobile-optimized experience. However, only 12 percent of the top 100 U.S. law firms currently have a mobile-optimized website.

"QR codes are emerging as a powerful branding tool for savvy professionals and the firms that employ them," said Vizibility founder and Chief Executive Officer James Alexander (http://vizibility.com/james). "But this study reveals three key challenges facing legal marketers who want to use this technology today. First, the vast majority of firm websites do not support a mobile experience; second, managing even a few, let alone hundreds of QR codes can be taxing on internal resources, and; third, marketers want a uniform experience branded for their firm."

The Vizibility solution makes firm-wide QR code deployment fast and inexpensive, delivering a brandable, truly mobile experience even if the firm's website does not. To assist legal professionals who want to learn more about QR codes, the company is offering a free webinar (https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/266030417) on September 20th at 1 p.m. ET. This webinar will explain QR codes and how to use them to help attorneys curate and share their online identities, including personalized Google search results, professional profiles, contact information and other vital marketing data.

To help legal marketers with QR code solutions, Vizibility is sponsoring the LMA Midwest Conference on September 9th in Chicago, the LMA Tech Conference/West on September 15th in San Francisco, and the Social Media for Law Firms conference on September 22nd in New York City.
