SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Vista Solar, a leading Bay Area commercial solar installer, announced that it will participate in TechWomen 2014.
As part of the U.S. Department of State's TechWomen exchange program, leading companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley will host 78 women from the Middle East and Africa during October. Through mentorship and exchange, the program provides participants access and opportunities to advance their careers in the STEM fields, and inspire women and girls in their communities.
Helping fulfill this year's emphasis on green technology, Vista Solar was selected as one of three Bay Area solar companies to participate and mentor emerging leaders whose career focus is on developing global solutions to environmental challenges. While here, emerging leaders will work side by side female mentors in their career fields.
Vista Solar will host Asal Ibrahim, an electrical engineer from Jordan currently working on her Masters in renewable energy and sustainable development with an emphasis on solar photovoltaics and concentrated solar power.
"The TechWomen Program will be a turning point for most of the participating women, both professionally and personally," says Asal. "I'm very humble to be chosen for this award and lucky to spend my stay at Vista Solar, and receive so much knowledge to take home."
After returning to their home countries, the 2014 TechWomen participants will join other program alumnae and several visiting U.S. mentors to conduct workshops for women and girls who have expressed interest in pursuing tech-based and renewable energy careers.
