'Vesuvius': Politics and Murder Cause Florida City to Erupt in Thrilling New Novel

FITZGERALD, Ga., Aug. 3, 2009 — Gay men are being killed in South Florida and a city is about to explode. Detective Ali Castillo and his FBI profiler partner, Jamie Stevens, have to find the killer before he kills again in Alex J. Killer James Brand was abused as a child and blames the gay community for the wrongs he endured in his youth and the inner turmoil he feels about his own sexuality. The gay community is in turmoil due to past history of the police's actions to their problems, and certain activists are stirring the coals of misconception in hopes of causing distrust of the authorities in charge and in office.

Alex J. McDonald retired from the Broward County Sheriff's Department in Florida after field training officers for 28 of the 37 years he was a deputy. He has a black belt in karate and is a former competitor in pistol and rifle shooting.

Alex is now living in his ancestral town, where his family has produced a superior court judge and a state representative. He has been happily married for 30 years. "Vesuvius" is his second novel.
