NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — New York City residents have been hit hard in all aspects of their lives by Hurricane Sandy and people all over the U.S. are rallying to support these victims. Items such as food and clothing have taken precedence in donations, and Varsity Tutors, a private tutoring service in NYC, saw an additional opportunity to help out by lending its educational services.
With so many schools shut down due to the power outages, it is possible that many students have seen their academics stalled. Offering a measure of continuity and normalcy, Varsity Tutors will provide free tutoring for the high school students of New York City.
On Saturday, November 17th, from 1 – 5 p.m., Varsity Tutors will provide free tutoring in Kips Bay New York Public Library. The Library is located at 446 Third Avenue (at E. 31st St.), New York City, New York 10016. Tutors will be available to assist students with high school-level math, science, and English.
Students who seek homework help in the wake of Hurricane Sandy are encouraged to work with a New York Varsity Tutor. Interested students should call ahead and register for one of the 25 open slots. Anyone interested in registering can speak with a Varsity Tutors director by dialing (917) 215-4373. Registration will be limited to the first 25 students who register.
Varsity Tutors officially launched back in 2007 and since then has expanded rapidly to work with students in 14 major metropolitan areas across the nation. New York is one of its biggest markets, and seeing so many of its clients go through such physical and emotional turmoil led CEO Chuck Cohn to reach out to the community.
