Take a Vacation to France and Receive a Tax Deduction

CHICAGO, March 3, 2011 — For A Cause organizes week-long cycling and walking vacations that raise money for non-profit organizations. The added benefit to participants is a tax deduction equal to the cost the trip. "This is a great incentive, which many people may not know about," said organizer Rob Webber.

This year's event, France Walk or Ride, September 11 – 17, 2011, is two events in one; participants choose to spend their week cycling, walking, or a combination of both for their favorite charity. Participants will spend the week in one central location, this year an 11th Century castle located in the Western Loire Valley, and make day trips out and back. Each day participants will visit different towns, wineries, and castles, and each day will return to luxury accommodations.

The cost of the trip (Registration Fee) is broken into three options: $500.00, $1,650.00 or $2,500.00 each with its own minimum fund-raising requirement. All expenses are included while on the event, like accommodations, meals, snacks, and route support. Not included are transportation to and from the event, personal expenses and incidentals.

The tax deduction comes into play because this is a fundraising event and a substantial part of the participant's day is dedicated to the fundraising activity, in this case walking or cycling. All reasonable expenses related to the event, including transportation to and from the event, can usually be deducted. All participants are encouraged to consult with a tax advisor or the IRS for their specific tax situation.

Last year's event, Spain Walk or Ride, had 16 participants and raised more than $40,000.00 for several non-profit organizations, including the Elizabeth Glasier Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Breast Cancer Network of Strength, God's Love We Deliver, and the National Kidney Foundation, Chicago Affiliate.

This year's event is limited to 24 participants. Participant Julie Rucinskie from Chicago, IL has participated every year and raises money for her charity, Breast Cancer Network of Strength. "These events mean so much to me; I can raise money for breast cancer, get in a little exercise, and have an amazing vacation," said Rucinskie. "It's why I come back every year." Another returning participant is George Cominski of Manhattan, NY whose beneficiary is God's Love We Deliver, a New York-based charity that delivers meals to people with AIDS and other diseases. "This is the only event, that I know of, where I can pay 100% of my personal event expenses and have more money go back to the beneficiary," said Cominski. "It's just one of the many reasons why I come back year after year."
