Transfer of LTCC Business to Adamant

TOKYO, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Adamant Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President Yoichi Shimoda, hereinafter referred as "Adamant") have reached a transfer agreement with Panasonic Corporation Automotive & Industrial Systems Company (hereinafter referred as "AIS") for Panasonic LTCC business with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of the substrate business and new growth.

Going back three decades, LTCC was commercialized and adopted as one miniaturization solution for packaging technology by Panasonic Healthcare Co., Ltd. Since then it has been widely acclaimed and has been used in various consumer and industrial products including mobiles, computers, peripherals, base stations, measurement instruments and medical products. While focusing on expansion for the coming decade, Adamant was interested in incorporating LTCC substrate business alongside their fine industrial jewel technology that uses materials such as sapphire, zirconia, ceramics and ruby for industrial markets.

Adamant has taken over LTCC manufacturing equipment, know-how, intellectual property and sales rights from AIS. Adamant will integrate this LTCC business with their current fine ceramic technology products including ferrules, sleeves, bonding capillaries and sapphire substrate technology (by Namiki, parent company) to enhance innovative value-added products within Namiki group and pursue the next generation core products in the areas of Silicon Photonics, Semiconductors, Aerospace, Wireless Communication, Microwave, Medical & Automotive. By focusing production overseas in a partner's factory, Adamant sets out to develop and expand new demands in the global and domestic market beginning in April.

About LTCC
LTCC stands for Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics.
It is a multi-layer ceramic technology, where layers of low resistance metal are printed onto ceramic substrates to form passive components and the layers are then stacked and fired to form a very robust finished product.

By being able to use multiple layers, one main advantage of this technology is that many different passive components can be fitted into a very small area and then compounded to produce a single device.

LTCC is a low loss material. Therefore, LTCC is most suitable for high frequency applications.

Low shrinkage tolerances, lamination and flatness means high precision and high density mounting is possible.

Due to its high thermal conductivity, LTCC is ideal for applications where high heat dissipation is required. Pattern minimization can be achieved by using Direct Plating Copper. It is used in various fields such as semiconductor packages and as circuit substrates.
