REDDING, Calif., Feb. 20, 2012 — Humor amidst sadness and love amidst suffering. This is author Peter Wright's touching true love story of The Art of the Gentle Healer.

In 1983, a single Registered Nurse from Michigan, Gloria, meets an alcoholic English sailor, Peter, in a Long Beach hospital where she works in the alcohol recovery ward. There is an immediate two-way attraction, and they are married two years later. In 1984, in an exciting house hunt, both Peter and Gloria eventually find their perfect home in Red Bluff, a cowboy town in Northern California. But circumstances soon reveal that Red Bluff is not their town, so they move to Redding, a larger city 30 miles north.

Gloria obtained her Master's Degree in M.F.C.C. Marriage, Family & Child Counseling in Southern California before they moved. Surrounded by her colleagues, she and her business thrive, as does her spirit and the expansion of her therapeutic acumen. She and Peter have become more devoted to each other. In the spring of 2005, Gloria is diagnosed with colorectal cancer. A year of intense treatment appears to put her into remission, but the cancer returns and spreads rapidly. She has two major surgeries which remove most of her stomach. A stoic until the last, she dies in the early hours of October 24, 2009. Peter seeks solace from grief groups, but he has lost his soul-mate.
