Tired of Washington Gridlock? Learn How You Can Help America's Leaders Work Together

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — As America's leaders get back to work following a contentious election and fiscal cliff crisis, citizens of all faiths, affiliations, marital preferences, racial backgrounds, and incomes are looking to our leaders in Congress to work effectively for us.  After so much strong disagreement on both sides of the aisle, can they find ways to cooperate for the good of the nation?

Leadership consultants and collaboration experts Paula Vigneault and Delia Horwitz say that a clear message to work together now, and a few simple tools, could help politicians in Washington work together in a meaningful way.  They are gifting copies of their book, COLLABORATION SOUP: A Six-Step Recipe for Co-Creative Meetings and Other Conversations, to members of Congress as a show of support and a way to provide useful tools to our leaders instead of criticism.

Vigneault and Horwitz are inviting the American people to take part in this effort by purchasing books as a gift to our leaders in Congress.  During the week of March 11, 2013, the co-authors will be personally delivering books to the offices of President Obama, Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden, and Jill Biden along with members of the Senate and the House of Representatives.  Individuals wishing to participate can contribute $15 to help cover expenses and track the progress of this effort on . The fundraiser launches on January 15, 2013.

Invite Vigneault and Horwitz to answer:

  • What is the biggest obstacle to collaboration?
  • How can cooperation happen when groups have such strongly opposing views?
  • What is the most effective way to facilitate collaboration?
  • Why is it so difficult for leaders to admit they're wrong?
  • How do you collaborate when people are angry?
  • If a leader is trying to get everyone to agree, doesn't that make them seem weak and indecisive?
