TiaLinx, Inc. Announces Phase I Air Force SBIR Award; Project to Develop Electronically Scanned Array (ESA) Antenna Transmit/Receive Module

IRVINE, Calif., April 20, 2005 — TiaLinx, Inc., a developer of Integrated Active Antenna Arrays, today announced that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I award from the Air Force. The objective of this program with the Air Force is to address feasibility of using TiaLinx's propriety integrated wafer-scale antenna module (WSAM(TM)) technology, focusing on persistent near real time tracking of Moving Targets Indications (MTI), High Resolution Terrain Information (HRTI) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging. These modules will require low power and a substantial reduction in mass and volume. Compared to conventional phased array technology, the WSAM will offer orders of magnitude enhancement in cost, weight, and manufacturing precision.

A typical active-array antenna is a planar array of small antenna elements spaced one-half wavelength apart in two dimensions. Behind each antenna is an electronic element that controls transmit and receive function of signals at a desired direction.

"TiaLinx is privileged to receive this Phase I SBIR award from the Air Force, as it indicates the significance of the technological breakthrough that is being developed," commented Dr. Fred Mohamadi, Founder and CEO of TiaLinx. "TiaLinx's highly integrated beamforming technology is revolutionizing multi-discipline DOD projects while paving the road to play a key role in emerging wireless communication markets."

High resolution RF beamforming technology of TiaLinx addresses applications such as early warning radar, ad hoc communication, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless connectivity, radiometry and passive-medical imaging, mobility aids for blinds, homeland security and surveillance, and collision avoidance systems.
