A 'Thank You' Toast to U.S. Armed Forces One Sip at a Time

Cellar Angels wine philanthropy partners with Soldiers' Angels

CHICAGO, June 22, 2011 — Are you planning a toast to freedom this Independence Day? If you purchased wine via Cellar Angels you may also be sending a much-needed care package to a real hero.

Cellar Angels (http://www.CellarAngels.com), a unique wine-philanthropy group, is donating 10 percent of net proceeds from partner wine sales to Soldiers' Angels, a not-for-profit providing aid and comfort to the men, women and families of all U.S. Armed Forces. The promotion starts this week just in time for Independence Day.

"There's really no way we can ever repay the sacrifice these true heroes have made. Our freedom is something to never take for granted and we thought this would be a great cause to help," said Martin Cody, President of Cellar Angels, a wine-buying club offering fantastic wines at discounted prices to its members and donates 10% of net proceeds to charities. All wines are from Napa and Sonoma areas of California with most being highly sought-after, small, family-run wineries. "Raise a glass to something American made and say 'thank you' to those providing the freedom to make it."

Cellar Angels has a limited number of charity partners to drive greater value for their causes.

"We try to focus on many areas of philanthropy and receive feedback from our members. We have great charity partners in medicine, environmental and early childhood education, but wanted something to assist our armed services," he said.  Existing Cellar Angels charity partners include The Ounce of Prevention, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, Auction Napa Valley, Children's Cardiology Foundation and Sea-thos. A special treat for Cellar Angels' members is their ability to select which worthy charity will receive the donation. "Our membership loves being able to choose and now they can select Soldiers' Angels to help all the Armed Forces and their families."

Toby Nunn, Executive Director of Soldiers' Angels and decorated soldier receiving both the Army Commendation Medal with Combat for Valor and the highly coveted Combat Infantry Badge again for valor while serving two tours in Iraq, had this to say about the new partnership: "It's always nice to be able to put two passions together – the enjoyment of wine and the supporting of troops dates back to biblical times. Being able to participate in troop support activities even when shopping for wine is a testament to how diverse and encompassing our support can be."

Cellar Angels works exclusively with Napa and Sonoma County wineries to offer its members highly rated wines at a significant discount. Each week, Cellar Angels members receive a private email alerting them to that week's offer. The email also provides tasting notes and food pairing recipe for the wine, often provided by a guest celebrity chef and a custom behind-the-scenes video of the winemaker and winery.

Offers launch each Tuesday morning and end Saturday at midnight. Wine quantities are limited and sell-outs are common. Only members may order wine. Membership is free and open to anyone 21 or over residing in states allowing direct shipment from California.

Previous wines have included Silverado Vineyards "Solo," Robert Keenan Winery's 30th Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon, Grgich Hills Estates, Meander, Arnot-Roberts, Bolen Family, Jericho Canyon, Kamen Estates and Stein Family Wines.

To celebrate the partnership and Independence Day, Cellar Angels will feature an impeccable example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Schweiger Vineyards.
