Tech Startup Provides Medical Services to Patients at Reduced Cost

Provides platform for price comparison and patient choice

CHEYENNE, Wyo., July 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — A revolutionary approach to the high cost of healthcare has recently launched its first trials in the Wyoming capital. This new service, Galen.me, is aimed at simplifying the process of finding and paying for healthcare.  It helps connect patients directly with doctors and it offers a combination of web-based and mobile applications that enable patients who are looking for medical services to price shop for nearby doctors and clinics who can address their specific needs.

In the wake of the widely publicized failures of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, popularly known as 'Obamacare,' Galen.me was launched with a focus on empowering patients and medical providers.  Chief Medical Officer and co-founder Dr. Eric Hoyer says, "The rollout of the federal healthcare overhaul, and its marketplace websites, really created a lot of confusion. We wanted to change the focus from all the government and insurance confusion, back to the two most important parties in healthcare, the patient and the doctor."

Galen.me has created an iPhone application that is available for free download in the Apple App Store which lets patients search for care from the convenience of their mobile devices. The application will search for providers in the vicinity of the device, and provide the patient a listing of doctors by either their price or distance. Patients will see the full price of the visit up front before they select a provider, and can also view descriptions created by the providers to choose the best fit based upon the price and value.

In addition to the iPhone platform, Galen.me is also accessible from their website at http://galen.me. They are also actively working on a version for Android-based devices such as the popular Galaxy series from Samsung. The company expects this to be available for download from the Google Play market within the next two months.

Because it is creating a marketplace to connect patients directly with healthcare providers, it enables patients to find medical services for discounts as high as 50% off other channels such as those negotiated through health insurance. Providers control their own pricing and can create offerings that avoid many of the complexities associated with the medical coding as well as the administrative overhead associated with payment and collections.  This helps to contribute to the significant cost savings that providers can offer through Galen.me.

Galen.me is currently running its pilot launch in Colorado and Wyoming.  Providers have begun to register with the service and are offering services through the Galen.me platform.  The company plans to aggressively expand it geographic coverage over the coming months.

About Galen.me

Galen.me is operated by H2 Technology LLC, which is headquartered in Cheyenne, WY. It was conceived to bring the power of the marketplace to bear on the complexity for patients looking for medical care. Drawing inspiration from the Roman physician Galen of Pergamon, the company is built around one guiding principle: medical care occurs between a patient and a doctor. Started by two brothers, Galen.me is a fusion of a doctor's insights into the world of healthcare, with a technologist's experience in bringing web and mobile convenience to consumers.
