Highlights of each of these prominent West Coast projects include:

Best Project Airports/Transit – Expansion of the San Diego Airport:  San Diego International Airport, the country's busiest single runway airport, needed to expand its facilities in order to accommodate its current and future operations as travel in and out of San Diego was increasing. After reviewing several options, the decision was made to embark on a $907 million expansion of the airport's Terminal 2 into a brand new 460,000 square-foot facility with 10 new wide-body gates, a new concession space and new security checkpoint. Additional infrastructure enhancements including new aircraft aprons and taxiways and were also completed as part of this project.

Syska Hennessy Group played a key role in this project by providing MEP engineering services for the new terminal as well as architectural lighting design, vertical transportation design services and overall design development services. Syska's team also provided CFD modeling for concessions, energy modeling of the terminal expansion and completing all design documents in an integrated BIM environment.

Award of Merit/Cultural Worship – The Arboretum at Christ Cathedral: In 2012, the Catholic Dioceses of Orange purchased this 34-acre property in Orange County, California, formerly the campus for the Robert Schuller Crystal Cathedral, and began transforming it into a new worship and meeting place for local residents. The new facility included a façade glass replacement, a structural retrofit and general building upgrades, including HVAC work. Syska Hennessy Group provided the critical MEP work for this overall renovation which converted the facility into a state-of-the-art house of worship hall.

Award of Merit, Government/Public Building – Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse: The design-build for this brand new Southern California courthouse is the first project of its kind in the United States under the principles of a Performance Based Infrastructure (PBI), a form of public/private partnership (PPP) agreement. Syska Hennessy Group was part of the design-build team to provide the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology (MEPT) engineering design for this new five-story, 545,000 square-foot courthouse, and is the Engineer of Record (EOR) for all of these systems. The Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse is a performance-based infrastructure and Syska Hennessy's engineering design required prioritizing the ease of operation, maintainability, reliability and efficiency, in order to help deliver long term availability payments related to maintenance and performance of the systems throughout.

Award of Merit Interiors/Tenant Improvement – LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal Concession Modifications:  Syska was the MEP engineer of record for the 66,300 square-foot build-out of a brand new $16.5 million concession area at the new Tom Bradley terminal at the Los Angeles International Airport. The new concession area was designed with a luxury aesthetic and now houses 47 retail tenants for airport visitors.

Award of Merit Sports/Entertainment; Rose Bowl Stadium Improvements and Renovations: Syska Hennessy Group provided consulting and engineering services towards the renovation of the Rose Bowl, the iconic Southern California sports stadium, home to the USC Trojans football team as well as the annual Rose Bowl New Year's Day football game.  The 92 year-old stadium was in need of repair but work needed to be completed in such a way that it would not affect the traditional look and feel of this historical landmark building. A $169 million carefully designed improvement plan was implemented which included new suites and a press pavilion as well as a doubling of space for concessions and additional restrooms.
