Sustainable Microfarms' Hydroponic Technology Exceeds $50,000 Indiegogo Funding Goal One Month Prior to Deadline

The Genesis Controller grows plants without using soil, designed to automatically regulate hydroponic reservoir nutrient and pH levels

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Sustainable Microfarms, Inc. (SMF), founded by USC alumni including tech guru Sanjay Rajpoot and tech commercialization expert Eric Ellestad, hit its Indiegogo campaign goal of $50,000 with a month remaining on its campaign timeline. The effort has been successful on three levels – moving its first hydroponics product offering, introducing a new line of consumer-friendly hydroponics nanofarms, and generating donations for non-profits that use hydroponic technology to better the world.

Campaign funds will finance the company's first large run of The Genesis Controller, a device that automates hydroponic farming. The system uses 90% less water, 70% less plant food and produces yields 10 times larger than soil farms, and it's completely automatic! It is more user-friendly and less expensive than any comparable technology, so growers can now leave their hydroponic gardens without fear. "I am grateful for the beautiful people helping us make technologies that can improve the world for everyone. We've been blown away by all of the support from the sustainability press and community as well as individual hydroponics growers," says founder Sanjay.

In addition to pre-sales for personal use, the Indiegogo campaign gives interested patrons the opportunity to influence the future of agriculture by donating to good causes. Sustainable Microfarms partnered with non-profits, including Hydro for Hunger and the Molina Center, to donate products to hydroponic farms in and out of the U.S. that are assisting those suffering from lack of food and resources. In addition to the outreach through Indiegogo, SMF recently started the process of creating training programs for sustainable farming techniques in collaboration with U.S. Aid (the lead U.S. government agency providing development and humanitarian assistance worldwide for over 50 years).

In the near future, Sustainable Microfarms will be officially announcing their newest product line of Nanofarms. Kid-friendly, office-friendly, and mess-free, Nanofarms are intended for hydroponics newbies. SMF is also looking to create a complete product family expansion to work with the Genesis and spur the growth of new green technology emerging from Southern California.
