In 1989 Strata was started by two students – now Strata looks to help other students get started
ST. GEORGE, Utah, Oct. 21, 2009 — Strata, the company adding the power of 3D to the designer's toolset, marks twenty years of pioneering 3D tools with its new 20/20 program. Strata and founders Ken and Gary Bringhurst are marking this milestone by giving away over $20,000 in software to twenty design students.
In a challenging job market, Strata is looking to help a select group of students who are about to graduate or who have recently graduated. "We remember how difficult it was to get started right out of college," said Gary Bringhurst. "Helping others get off the ground seems like a fitting way to celebrate 20 years of success."
Prospective 20/20 award recipients can apply at . Applicants will be asked to explain what challenges they are facing, the design discipline they expect to find a job in, where they went to school and when they graduated. Successful candidates will also need to include links to samples of their work.
Awards will range from individual Strata applications to the full Strata 3D CX Suite. The Strata applications include Strata Foto 3D CX, Strata Enfold 3D CX, Strata Design 3D CX and Strata Live 3D CX. Together the Strata 3D CX Suite lets designers capture, create, design and deliver their ideas faster, with more control – and all in 3D. All four products include plug-ins for Adobe applications, taking Photoshop, Illustrator and more to a higher level.
"An Adobe connected strategy has been important to us from the beginning," said Ken Bringhurst, Strata president. "We started out in 1989 reading Illustrator 88 files. Now our tools have gone beyond just reading Adobe files to offering native file export, application plug-ins and content live-linking."
"It's amazing to think back to those early days. In 1989, designers often had to take a picture of the screen with a 35mm camera for output. Since then we've seen desktop printing go color, desktop video come about, CD ROM become a popular format with games like MYST, and then the revolution of the internet with its ever changing content forms. It's been a fun ride – and the upcoming twists and turns look to be just as fun!"
