'Stepping Over Myself': From Promising Tennis Player to Death's Door

SUFFERN, N.Y., July 29, 2009 — Ayis Caperonis was a young man with high hopes of becoming a tennis star when the unthinkable happened: he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and life as he knew it drastically changed. "Stepping Over Myself: Finding My Way and My Life After A Brain Tumor" (published by AuthorHouse) is the story of his incredible comeback after breakthrough brain surgery.

"Stepping Over Myself" details the tragic circumstances that enabled a young man to form new and different dreams than those of his youth. Ayis had an orange sized brain tumor crushing his cerebellum and no surgery had ever been performed where the patient survived.

The lead surgeon on the case, Dr. Nicholas de Tribolet, had told Ayis' parents there was a 70 percent chance he would die on the table. Unbeknownst to Ayis, his parents had been told to "take a good look at him, the next time you see him it will be a different Ayis."

After nine hours of surgery, Ayis was in an induced coma for three days. So his brain could adjust to the mass being removed and begin to function again. On day four, Ayis opened his eyes and the real work began. Ayis would go through a month of therapy to become the young man everyone knew.

"Stepping Over Myself" lets readers follow the story of Ayis and the hardships he has had to overcome. Ayis gives readers an understanding of the resilience and strength shown throughout the life he had imagined and the new life he has created for himself.
