SS8 Adds Two New Entries to Expanding Lawful Intercept Library

Global Leader in Lawful Interception Publishes Both Whitepaper and Industry Article Addressing the Intricacies and Challenges of IP Intercept

MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 29, 2008 — SS8 (SS8 Networks, Inc.), the global leader of lawful intercept solutions for telecommunication service providers and law enforcement agencies, announces the availability of two new industry resources: a whitepaper entitled "IP Intercept Analysis: Facing the New Challenges" and an industry submission entitled "Lines of Communication."

In his whitepaper, Scott Coleman, Director of Marketing for LI, lends his expertise on the many new challenges facing the international law enforcement community. "The analysis of intercepted IP traffic poses new challenges for a law enforcement community used to traditional voice and data intercept," says Coleman. "Although identifying all of the intercept access points for all possible call flows may be difficult, the reconstruction of the voice conversation is simple. The reconstruction of an Internet session, however, is much more difficult." The solution, Coleman explains, lies in hiding the non-relevant network noise ("keep alive" messages, audit checks, equipment checks, traffic monitoring, location identification messages, etc.) and building easy-to-understand high-level events out of network transactions and interactions. These events (emails, chat sessions, web surfing, etc.) allow analysts (not just network technicians) to see an actual recreation of the Internet session and interact with it.

In "Lines of Communication" (http://www.intersec.co.uk), Coleman discusses the evolution of the lawful telecommunications intercept market, and examines the challenges faced by intelligence gatherers. "Communications technology has undergone huge advancements not only in the ways we communicate, but also in terms of frequency. The entire LI ecosystem must rapidly move away from voice-centric solutions as today's consumers – and in this context, criminals – increasingly communicate through other means like email, IM, VoIP, and other Web 2.0 technologies." Coleman explains the critical need to enable the evolution of the LI ecosystem to "ensure the technology used in defense of public safety remains at the high standards we currently experience."
