Software Innovator Announces Release of Identity Finder

New software product addresses a critical aspect of identity theft prevention unmet by leading security software solutions.

NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2007 — Today Velosecure, a leading software innovator in security and privacy technologies, released its latest product, Identity Finder(TM). Developed to address the needs of individuals and home users as well as small- to medium-sized businesses, Identity Finder searches computers for personally identifiable information and helps users either securely delete or encrypt the data it uncovers to protect themselves from identity theft.

"It's something that most users of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs don't realize until it's too late," explained Todd Feinman, CEO. "These programs do well identifying external threats, but they don't help find and protect personal data at risk on people's own computers." Feinman's referring to personal information such as social security numbers, credit cards, bank accounts, and online passwords which, if compromised, can result in identity theft.

"Very few home and business users realize how much of this information is inadvertently saved on their computers – most of it from web browsing or inside e-mails and files they believe they deleted," David Goldman, president of Velosecure, explains. "But when their laptop is lost or their workstation hacked, they start to worry about the consequences."

With public disclosure of over 100 million records containing private information since 2005, more than half the states in the U.S. have passed laws requiring companies to notify individuals of data leakage. Additionally, home users are conducting more business online and are always connected to the Internet, which increases their exposure to security incidents. Yet, until now, no software solutions have been available to help users easily identify and safeguard personal information.

To tap this unmet demand, the company set out to develop a tool that would help people secure their data and prevent identity theft – and in the process, launched a new segment of the security software market. Identity Finder quickly searches a user's files, e-mails, hidden web browser data, and other system areas using proprietary search algorithms to automatically locate personally identifiable information regardless of format and syntax. After it locates sensitive data that could lead to identity theft, Identity Finder assists users with securely deleting or encrypting the information. The goal is not only to prevent identity theft, but also to provide peace of mind.
