SIR and ARIA Announce Joint Venture to Match Research Expertise with Data

INDIANAPOLIS, April 12, 2010 — The Society of Insurance Research (SIR) and the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) announce the introduction of the Practitioner Academic Linking Site (PALS). This one-of-a-kind site provides the ability to link those who need insurance research data with those who have the data. The system is available exclusively to members of SIR and ARIA.

Denese Ross, President of the Society of Insurance Research (SIR), noted, "We have been working with the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA) for two years to bring these capabilities to our respective members. Our hope is PALS will help promote academic research that can provide information our members can use as they try to meet the challenges of a changing world. We look forward to this being the first in other member benefits offered in conjunction with ARIA."

PALS will:

  • Provide the ability to seek data or to seek someone to work on a project
  • Link insurance professionals and academic researchers – in a confidential environment
  • Provide the ability to involve more than one organization, from either side
  • Enable the academic world to conduct industry-level analysis – by providing the potential to gain access to multiple carriers' data
  • Provide the insurance professional with additional statistical, modeling and analysis support

Vickie Bajtelsmit, President of ARIA, says, "We are excited about providing our members the ability to more easily access 'real-life' data to use in their research. While we have successfully worked with many carriers in the past, the PALS system should provide us more direct access to companies who have the data we need."
