Secessionists Reveal Instability of American Security: New Fiction Filled with Conspiracy, Deceit, and Blackmail

SIDNEY, Ohio, Oct. 1, 2009 — Deceit, terrorist attacks and sexual blackmail fuel the potential division of the United States and discarded reliance of centralized government spurred by domestic terrorists in "Averton" (published by AuthorHouse), the new book by third-time author, Terry Pellman. What begins as a seedy extra-marital affair soon turns into an elaborate plot of deception, murder and political chaos.

Kelly Hastings is currently the chief detective at the Averton Police Department. In hopes of living a more subdued life with his new wife, Hastings has plans to become a college professor. Before he has a chance to pursue this career change, tragedy strikes the small town of Averton in the form of unexplained terrorist bombings. Pellman writes:

The night of the bombings, he had rested peacefully in bed. Earlier on that day he had overseen a rare weekend raid of an even rarer Averton crack house. He settled in that night reading a history of Averton and Manchester County that related how the town had begun as a settlement, a sleepy river trading post. The noise of explosions had roused him from his sleep that night. In the darkened house, he had no idea that the peaceful image of Averton was gone for eternity.

In combination with his position of power within the community, Hastings' insatiable sexual appetite eventually leads him to his peril. Burdened with the insecurities associated with this fact, his second wife, Mollie, confides in her closest friend, who unfortunately is also the enemy. This friend is none other than the wife of Franklin Norwood. Norwood is front and center in the attempt to spur the upheaval of the United States government and serves as the driving force behind his group's sinister plot.

Norwood and his group manipulate the death of the Chief of Police, Hastings' mentor and friend. With him out of the picture, Norwood makes sure Hastings is the new Chief of Police in Averton. After an alluring woman who was introduced as the Norwoods' niece makes herself sexually available, Hastings finds himself unwilling to fight the urge to pursue her. The intimate concerns shared by Mollie with Norwood's wife are now the roadmap to his seduction.

His mind was a void and he could not comprehend how he had come to this point. Within a few weeks, he was the heir apparent to a job he was uncertain he wanted and was now being blackmailed to remain in it.

He thought of the images on the tapes and envisioned Franklin sitting watching them. He imagined the look on Mollie's face should she see them and resigned himself to the fact that his entire life was now guided by the whims of a man who had pretended to be a friend.
