Science, Math, and Reading Comprehension Are Specialties for New Club Z! Location in the Livermore Valley

Science teacher Denise Sughayar's new Club Z! branch will provide supportive, one-on-one instruction to help local students boost grades and reach their academic potential

LIVERMORE, Calif., March 10, 2011 — Working with students one-on-one is an opportunity many teachers simply don't have – today's class sizes are generally too large to allow such individualized attention, even for children who may desperately need it. In fact, while educational research indicates that most students do benefit from one-on-one academic instruction, only a very small percentage ever receive it. Through owning and operating a Club Z! In-Home Tutoring Services branch in the Livermore Valley, local teacher, National Guard veteran, and area resident Denise Sughayar hopes to make that lucky percentage just a little higher – and every little bit helps.

With a B.A. in Biology Education and more than 5 years' experience teaching Biology, Life, and Forensic Science in the Bay Area, Ms. Sughayar also holds a Certificate in Cross-Cultural Learning and Academic Development, was recognized as a grant recipient by Industry Initiatives for Science and Math Education in 2007, and participated in the Teacher Institute at San Francisco's Exploratorium in 2008. Very familiar with the challenges students and instructors face in traditional classroom settings, she hopes to support local schools and families with the supplemental education services provided by Club Z!.

"I began tutoring shortly after my son was born, and I've found that I really enjoy working with students one-on-one," Ms. Sughayar states. "I enjoy seeing how that direct interaction between the tutor and student can really help the student succeed. When a Club Z! franchise came up for sale, I just knew it was something I had to try."

As North America's largest one-on-one, in-home tutoring program, Club Z! has an excellent 15-year reputation, resulting in hundreds of thousands of happy clients. Key to the franchise's high success rate is its supportive, individualized method, in which students meet with their tutors in the comfort and privacy of their own homes, where they already feel secure and distractions can be minimized. In this environment, students and tutors are more easily able to focus not only on subject-area instruction but also on building the learning and study strategies that will be vital to long-term academic success. This approach to tutoring is also a hit with parents, who appreciate not only the individual attention their child receives, but also the flexible scheduling and regular progress reports.

Ms. Sughayar notes that science and math instruction will of course be one specialty of her new branch – a natural fit not only with her own education but with the area. "Livermore is special because we have both the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Sandia National Laboratory in our city, so this area is definitely a stronghold in science and math," she notes. "During my years of classroom teaching, I also focused on reading strategies and metacognition within content areas." Whether for basic math and reading, study skill building or help with core academic subjects, or preparation for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT, Club Z's instructors are highly trained and pre-screened, and tutoring options are available to students of all ages and ability levels.

"At our location, I will always strive to hire tutors who are not only knowledgeable, but who will also relate well with students, so students will really look forward to the tutoring sessions," Ms. Sughayar adds. "I am also looking forward to meeting and working with families in the area." She and her husband (also a National Guard veteran, and a Bay Area native) have been Livermore residents for several years.
