Sarasota's The Oaks Club Celebrates Pearl Anniversary with All-Time High Membership

Private community appeals to younger demographic as it unveils new upgrades to clubhouse

OSPREY, Fla., Feb. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Oaks Club has plenty of reasons to celebrate its Pearl anniversary in 2014. Thirty years after its founding, the 750-home private golf club community south of Sarasota recently reached 536 equity members, an all-time high, according to Jeff Hartigan, General Manager.

"We've just unveiled major interior design upgrades to our clubhouse, and are looking forward to the redesign of the Heron, one of our two championship-style courses," said Hartigan. "In addition, the average age of our residents in our community keeps getting younger.  A typical new resident of The Oaks Club is now just 59 years old, and we have more than 300 children and young adults age 25 or younger."

In keeping with the dynamic nature of The Oaks Club, the 400 members of The Oaks Women's Club raised more than $35,000 last year to fund scholarships for female high school students in the region.

Hartigan said that the number of golfing members continues to grow among both residents and non-residents. "Many people really enjoy playing on our Eagle and Heron courses," he said. "We anticipate that membership growth will continue in the next few years."

In September, work will begin on a complete renovation of the Heron course. "The entire surface of the golf course is being altered to improve irrigation and drainage, and those changes will allow us to improve playability in certain areas, as well as create more interesting and fun contours," said Jason Straka, principal, Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design, which is designing the course on behalf of Hurdzan/Fry Golf Course Design.  "Additionally, players will appreciate better bunkers, interesting greens complexes, and a new teeing system that will accommodate all skill levels of players."

With its location, golf amenities and social activities, The Oaks Club has been a popular location for Gulf Coast residents since 1983. The well-established gated community is fully built out, with mature trees and landscaping that create a quiet and peaceful atmosphere for residents.

The Oaks Club is a private country club community developed on more than 1,000 acres situated on the east and west sides of U.S. 41 in Osprey, Florida, just 12 miles south of downtown Sarasota. Club amenities feature two championship golf courses, 40,000-square-foot Georgian-style clubhouse with three restaurants, 12 Har-Tru tennis courts, pool complex, croquet, guest lodge and an active social calendar.
