Santa Lucia Highlands' Winegrowers Announce Press & Trade Tasting

More Than 25 Vintners Slated to Pour in Los Angeles on February 9

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif., Jan. 7, 2009 — The Wine Artisans of the Santa Lucia Highlands, an alliance of the appellation's winegrowers and the wineries that rely on the district's world-class vinifera, will be conducting a private tasting for wine retailers, restaurateurs, and the press. The media and trade will have the opportunity to sample the newest releases from more than twenty-five Santa Lucia Highlands-appellated brands on Monday, February 9, at BLT Steak in West Hollywood.

Attendees will explore limited releases poured by the winemakers themselves; wineries scheduled to participate include Pelerin, Morgan, Testarossa, Pisoni, Pessagno, Tondre, Siduri, Paraiso, Manzoni, Lucienne, Mer Soleil, Belle Glos, Talbott, Novy, Boekenoogen, McIntyre, Tudor, Bernardus, Loring, Cru, Martin Alfaro, Hope & Grace, Roar, Puma Road, Monterey Vineyard, Tamayo, Pey-Lucia, and Wrath.

Dan Lee of Morgan Winery, current Board President of the Santa Lucia Highlands Wine Artisans, comments: "This is our group's first trade event in Southern California; it will be a unique chance for the industry to learn about the vineyards, personalities, and wines of our appellation. There is likely to be more than 75 Pinot Noirs alone, with many being of such limited production that this may be the only opportunity to sample them."

The tasting will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at luxurious BLT Steak (Bistro Laurent Tourondel), 8720 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. Pre-registration is required; complimentary passes for qualified press, retail, and restaurant professionals are available online at http://www.santaluciahighlands.com, by calling the Blue Lifestyle r.s.v.p. hotline at 1-800-338-7819, extension 6, or emailing Email

The Santa Lucia Highlands is one of the crown jewels of California viticulture, growing and producing some of the state's best cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah. The appellation encompasses more than 5,000 acres of prime vineyards, planted on the elevated terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. The area's unique character was recognized with official A.V.A. status in 1991.

The Wine Artisans of the Santa Lucia Highlands, formed in 2005, is a formal association of vineyards and wineries that grow grapes here or use this region's fruit to craft their wines. Their primary goal is to promote this unique viticultural district and increase awareness and appreciation of the Santa Lucia Highlands. The general public will be invited to sample the group's wines at the May 16 "Highlands Fling" gala at Hahn Estates; tickets go on sale February 1 on the association's website: http://www.santaluciahighlands.com
