ME Registers 50,000 New Domain Names in Open Registration

The Web's new personalized domain name proves popular around the globe

NEW YORK, July 22, 2008 — The .ME Registry officially opened for live, real-time registrations July 17, 2008 and was met with huge international demand. More than 50,000 new me domain names were registered in the first two days, with the first "live" name registered being: yusu.me. The first live me domain name registered by a Domainmonster.com (http://www.domainmonster.com/) customer was bonk.me.

"While English speaking countries led the way in registration volume, many non-English speaking countries such as Germany, China, and France made a strong showing," said Predrag Lesic, the Me registry's executive director. "We believe this bodes well for the international success of .ME as the only domain name that is all about YOU. .ME is a domain space that offers personalized me domain names (http://www.domainmonster.com/me-domain-names) for your products and services, or your personal presence on the web, including email, in a more generic way than any other."

"Our .ME launch plan was executed with perfection by the launch team here at Domainmonster.com," commented Matt Mansell, Managing Director, Mesh Digital Ltd. "Within 90 seconds, we had cleared our queue of thousands of pre-orders and were registering in real time, almost immediately from launch. We achieved a success rate of more than 85% for the pre-orders that our customers had made, securing them valuable me domain names at the crucial time."

The registration process for .ME domains began in May with the Sunrise period for trademark holders. Land Rush for the general public to register domain names began in June. In total more than 30,000 domains were applied for in Sunrise and Land Rush periods, and more than 50,000 new registrations were added in the initial days of live, real-time registration.
