The Professional Development Center at the University of Texas at Austin to Offer Courses in Antigua, Guatemala

AUSTIN, Texas, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Professional Development Center at the University of Texas at Austin (UT PDC) is proud to announce a series of professional education classes to take place in Antigua, Guatemala in 2014. UT PDC kicks off the professional development series by hosting a two-day course, Managing Projects, for Guatemala's business community on May 23-24, 2014.

In collaboration with the College of Fine Art's Mesoamerica Center, UT PDC uses its substantial expertise to instate a series of courses that will provide professional education for a rapidly developing region.

The two-day course is open to anyone in Guatemala's professional community, including those working in hotel management, tourism, regional government and private industry. Managing Projects focuses on building essential skills to help participants lead projects in a timely, cost-effective manner. Key principles explored in the course include managing the project team, preparing comprehensive project plans, and delivering excellent results. And later this summer, UT PDC is offering a second course – Managing Staff & Supervising People – also to be held at Casa Herrera July 25-26, 2014.

Based at Casa Herrera, a fully restored 17th century Spanish Colonial property located in the heart of Antigua, these courses seek not only to expand on existing partnerships, but also to play an integral role in expanding the professional development services in Antigua, Guatemala. Casa Herrera is operated by the Mesoamerica Center, an institution founded by the University's Department of Art and Art History in the College of Fine Arts.

"Through the Professional Development Center, The University of Texas is able to empower working professionals all across the globe," says Janet Ellzey, Vice Provost for International Programs. "We are proud to extend UT's reach beyond the Forty Acres, where courses such as PDC Project Management will positively impact both the individual participants and their respective communities."
