Premiere Hoops and Shiloh Baptist Church Share Plan, Ask for Help in Revitalizing Chronically Underserved Fairmont

PLAINFIELD, Ill., Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — As president of Premiere Hoops (http://www.premierehoops.net/), William Leach has invested substantial time and energy in finding ways to revitalize the small community of Fairmont. During his research, he stumbled upon the Fairmont Neighborhood Plan, a 78-page document authored by the Will County Land Use Department and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) that will provide the blueprint for bringing Fairmont up to par with its neighbors.

An unincorporated community of more than 2,500, Fairmont has been excluded from the steady growth of surrounding areas in Will County. Residents lack basic services like trash pickup and sidewalks, and vacant lots are everywhere. The first step in creating fresh opportunities for Fairmont will be bringing its infrastructure into the 21st century.

"Another step in enacting the CMAP plan will be to provide a place in the community where residents can gather for recreational services, organized sports programs and educational activities," explained Leach. "The Recreation Outreach Center (ROC) at Shiloh Baptist Church will serve that purpose and be key to our mission."

Through a partnership agreement, Premiere Hoops will be offering community programs at Shiloh Baptist Church that will include open gym, basketball leagues and a travel basketball team for AAU. Leach envisions a team approach from all stakeholders in support of the ROC Center: "If we can obtain additional resources and funds from the residents, church organizations, corporate leaders and government officials, then we can expect to quickly see positive results that will benefit all of Fairmont."

Ultimately, the team that helps support the ROC can also be part of the team that helps to support the revitalization of Fairmont. "We just can't sit back any longer and wait for someone else to save our children and communities. We have to do it ourselves," says Leach.

According to the CMAP plan, a big investment will be needed to help turn Fairmont around. But a big return on that investment can be expected for those residents, church organizations, corporate partners and government officials who decide to join the team.

Added Leach: "We'll have to fight for every win when it comes to Fairmont. But we're ready to face those challenges and will compete for the entire 48-minute game, like a NBA team, to help turn around Fairmont! In fact, we're prepared to play a whole NBA season, if that's what it takes to make Fairmont a better place!"

Through the Play For Rings foundation, area businesses have already made significant contributions to the ROC's mission: Silver Cross Hospital donated $2,000 for the purchase of microcomputers, for a new computer lab, while Old Plank Trail Bank has given $500 in support of the ROC's after school program. With more support like this from the corporate community, Fairmont will soon become a vibrant and growing community.
