Penn Brewery Will Kick Off Summer 2012 with a Seasonal Beer Lineup and the Pennsylvania Microbrewers Fest

PITTSBURGH, March 29, 2012 — Penn Brewery is pleased to present its lineup of summer seasonal beers for 2012, as well as the 16th Annual Pennsylvania Microbrewers Fest.

Penn's Summer Beers

Leading Penn's summer lineup is the Brewery's original wheat beer, Penn Weizen (photo). Penn Weizen is one of the most decorated Hefeweizens made in America, making it a truly Elite Wheat! Its honors include:

  • Three Great American Beer Festival® Medals
  • One World Beer Cup® Medal
  • Six National Grand Champion Titles, United States Beer Tasting Championship
  • One of only two Gold Medals awarded at the World Beer Championship in the Hefeweizen category in 2004
  • Named one of "the 25 Best Beers in America" by Men's Journal (2006)

With an ABV of 5.0%, Penn Weizen is top-fermented, cask-conditioned, and very effervescent, with a hint of tangy clove flavor. The brew is available on draft and in 12-oz. bottles.

In honor of Penn Weizen, the Brewery is running the "Penn Elite Wheat" sweepstakes April 9 through July 31, with prizes including a wheat gift basket and logoed wheat beer glasses. Details and entry form are available at www.pennbrew.com.

Along with Penn Weizen, two other favorites – Penndemonium Maibock (photo) and Penn Summer Berry Wheat (photo) – will also be back for the season. Penndemonium is a strong, full-bodied, light-colored Maibock beer with a smooth, mellow finish and a 7.5% ABV. Penndemonium will be available on draft and in 22-oz. bottles starting in mid-April. With a 5.5% ABV, Penn Summer Berry Wheat is a light-tasting wheat beer flavored with a ripe berry blend, perfect for the warm weather months. Summer Berry will be available on draft and in 12-oz. bottles beginning the week of May 7.

Finally, Penn's newest beer, Cool River Kolsch-Style, will ship in late May. Cool River Kolsch-Style (photo) is a crisp, clean beer with a subtle fruit fragrance. It's pale golden in color and delicate in flavor, with subdued hoppiness and a 4.5% ABV.

16th Annual Pennsylvania Microbrewers Fest Coming to Penn Brewery Saturday, June 2

Penn continues another summer tradition with its Pennsylvania Microbrewers Fest, scheduled for June 2. Brewers from more than 25 regional craft breweries will join us to sample their wares. Two three-hour sessions, 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm, are planned, along with live entertainment and a food tent.

Tickets go on sale at www.pennbrew.com beginning April 2. Tickets are $40 apiece in April; $45 in May; and $60 at the door. Price includes one meal (sandwich, side, and dessert), all beer samples, and a souvenir beer glass. Ages 21 and older only.

Malt Minute

Penn's new online video series, The Malt Minute, debuted on March 1. Malt Minute aims to help craft beer fans better understand their favorite libation in 90 seconds or less. Each installment gives a brief, easy-to-understand overview of a different beer style or piece of beer terminology, presented by a professional brewer. A new Malt Minute episode airs bi-weekly at www.maltminute.com. Upcoming episodes will highlight Maibock and Pilsner beer varieties, as well as the mashing and decoction processes.
