Two PCI Education Products Named Finalists for The Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Awards

Word Problems for Nonreaders and Environmental Print Recognized in Special Education Category

SAN ANTONIO, May 18, 2010 — The Association of Educational Publishers has named Word Problems for Nonreaders and Environmental Print Level One as 2010 Distinguished Achievement Award finalists in the special education category. Published by PCI Education, the number-one provider of resources for students with special needs, the programs are designed to help students with limited or no reading skills.

The Word Problems for Nonreaders Series helps students with limited or no reading skills solve basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems based on life in the real world. The activity sheets are illustrated to allow visual learners to understand how math works in everyday life. Each binder focuses on specific math skills: addition, subtraction, or multiplication and division, and includes activity sheets, teacher instructions, a progress chart, and an answer key.

The Environmental Print Series is a comprehensive, standards-based language arts curriculum for students with significant cognitive disabilities. It teaches students to identify and explain the meaning of 48 signs found in the community. The language arts program integrates forms of environmental print, such as road signs and indoor signs, into story lines about adolescent characters. The books and activity sheets in the Environmental Print Series use symbol-supported text to help nonreaders easily understand the stories, and improve their literacy skills.

The Association of Educational Publishers also recognized PCI Education for its excellence in education marketing.  The company's online tool, the Turbo Solutions Builder, is a finalist for a Beacon Award in the website/e-commerce category. The Turbo Solutions Builder saves valuable time, quickly revealing the safest and most popular selections for educators looking to purchase instructional materials with IDEA and Title I stimulus funding.

For more than four decades, the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning.
