Environmental Print and Word Problems for Nonreaders Recognized in Special Education Category
SAN ANTONIO, June 21, 2010 — The Association of Educational Publishers has honored PCI Education with two 2010 Distinguished Achievement Awards for Environmental Print Level One and Word Problems for Nonreaders. Published by PCI Education, the number-one provider of resources for students with special needs, the programs are designed to help students with limited or no reading skills.

The Environmental Print Series is a comprehensive, standards-based language arts curriculum for students with significant cognitive disabilities. It teaches students to identify and explain the meaning of 48 signs found in the community. The language arts program integrates forms of environmental print, such as road signs and indoor signs, into story lines about adolescent characters. The books and activity sheets in the Environmental Print Series use symbol-supported text to help nonreaders easily understand the stories, and improve their literacy skills.
The Word Problems for Nonreaders Series helps students with limited or no reading skills solve basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems based on life in the real world. The activity sheets are illustrated to allow visual learners to understand how math works in everyday life. Each binder focuses on specific math skills: addition, subtraction, or multiplication and division, and includes activity sheets, teacher instructions, a progress chart, and an answer key.
