Program Provides Funding, Idea Sharing to Special Education Teachers
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 13, 2011 — PCI Education, the premier provider of resources for students with special needs, announces the sponsorship of a grant in celebration of the company's 20th anniversary. Hosted on the online community WeAreTeachers, the grant provides special education teachers the opportunity to earn money for their classroom, while collaborating and sharing best practices with educators across the country.
To apply, teachers answer this question: "Have you ever taught a lesson that really resonated with a special needs student? Tell us about a lesson you teach that was specifically influenced by that experience." After the application process concludes, educators can invite colleagues to vote for their favorite lesson idea. All of the submissions will be published online, creating a wealth of teacher-generated best practices for the special education classroom.
The five teachers with the most online votes will receive a $200 cash grant and a Flip Video(TM) camera to capture their students with special needs in action. In addition, PCI Education will award the next 15 teachers who receive the most online votes with a $200 gift certificate to spend on teaching materials.
"This program allows special education teachers to showcase their creativity, share ideas and bring new techniques to the classroom," said Lee Wilson, president and CEO of PCI Education. "We're pleased to celebrate our 20th anniversary with this grant through WeAreTeachers, to recognize teachers who are instrumental in changing the lives of students with special needs."
The grant application can be found at http://www.weareteachers.com from Sept. 13 to Oct. 11. Voting will begin on Oct. 13, when the submitted projects will be posted online for public view. The 20 teachers whose projects receive the most online votes will be announced on Oct. 31.
