Online CGI Videos Explaining Eye Disease Introduced During February for Low Vision Awareness Month

BALTIMORE, Feb. 22, 2012 — Computer-animated 3D visuals providing an internal look at the eye's anatomy are now available on the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) website, http://www.ahaf.org. Visitors can watch 127 videos – in English and Spanish – that demonstrate a range of topics including the origins, progression, diagnosis, and treatment of eye diseases. The February launch is timed to help improve public understanding of eye disease in conjunction with Age-related Macular Degeneration Month and Low Vision Awareness Month.

The animations were created by Eyemaginations, Inc., a healthcare media company located in Baltimore, MD. The nonprofit AHAF funds research and provides public information on two vision diseases – macular degeneration and glaucoma.

"More than 14 million Americans are living with macular degeneration or glaucoma, yet still too few people know how the diseases strike and what their effects are," said Guy Eakin, vice president of scientific affairs at AHAF. "People can come to our site for the latest information about these diseases, and now, thanks to Eyemaginations, they can use a powerful new tool to better understand them."

"This collaboration with the AHAF is a true testament to Eyemaginations' goal of providing the most effective, up-to-date tools for patient education," said Eyemaginations CEO and President Jeff Peres. "We are proud to be a part of this shared commitment to increase awareness of eye disease during the month dedicated to Age-related Macular Degeneration and Low Vision Awareness."

Videos on macular degeneration are available at http://www.ahaf.org/eyevideos1, and glaucoma animations are available at http://www.ahaf.org/eyevideos2.
