Oil and Gas Investment Leads KKR to Real Estate Investment in the Bakken

Kolberg Kravis Roberts & Company and CP Realty to present at Bakken Investor Conference

MINOT, N.D., April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — KKR and CP Realty will speak to a group of oil and gas companies, real estate developers, and investors about their Williston Basin investment path—from oil and gas to real estate— in the Williston Basin at the 2013 Bakken Investor Conference in Minot, ND.

KKR made its first significant investment in the Bakken in 2011 when it purchased Samson Resources, an energy operator, for $7.2 billion.  Recognizing the real estate opportunities in the Williston Basin, KKR made its second substantial investment in a $150 million housing project, The Ridge at Harvest Hills.  The 164 acre development overlooks the city of Williston and includes up to 810 apartments and 700 single family, townhome, and duplex homes.

KKR invested in the housing community to meet demand from an influx of workers in the state's booming oil industry.  Michael Friedland with KKR and Roger Pecsok and Mike Anderson with CP Realty will present on the project, noting the significance of the investments, the impact on the community and the value to their investors.

KKR is among the most active investors in the energy industry. The firm has a group dedicated to energy and infrastructure deals.

"The oil and gas industry is driving the economy in the Williston Basin and with it the need for more housing and real estate development. There are many investment opportunities here, and KKR's project is a great example of how companies are capitalizing on all of the opportunities the Bakken has to offer," said Jeff Zarling, president, Dawa Solutions Group. "We are seeing more developers coming to the area seeking information and contacts."

Dawa has partnered with Sleep Inn & Suites Minot to host the 3rd Annual Bakken Investor Conference scheduled for April 24 through April 26, 2013. The conference connects investors with oil and gas companies and real estate developers to explore opportunities in the Bakken Shale play.

Other speakers at the conference include Jared Lewis, Senior Analyst, Oil & Gas, Northland Capital Markets; David L. Goodin, President and CEO, MDU Resources Group, Inc.; and Jon Nelson, Hegg Development.
