OdyseeTV Web-Based Television Station Launched for Saving Wildlife

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27, 2009 — Animal Fund, a San Francisco-based, 38-year-old non-profit organization, today announced the launching of a revolutionary web-based television station dedicated to promoting organizations and individuals around the world that are working to save the Earth's wildlife and wild places.

OdyseeTV (http://www.odyseetv.com), hosted by actor Peter Coyote ("E.T.," "Erin Brockovich"), allows visitors to watch any of its dozens of 8- to 10-minute entertaining, inspirational and provocative well-produced shows, each about a single organization and the wildlife or environment they are working to save. Each show also offers viewers a simple click to access the main and donation site of that particular organization, with 100 percent of donations going directly to the group. Among the organizations showcased are Defenders of Wildlife, Earthtrust, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Australian Koala Foundation, Bat Conservation International, The American Eagle Foundation, Conservational International, Friends of Animals and many more. The site, which will eventually have 100 shows available, is free to the public and free to the organizations, relying on foundation grants and corporate sponsorship, the first of which is VISA credit cards.

Animal Fund founder and president, Stan Minasian, an Emmy Award-winning wildlife filmmaker who has produced shows that have been broadcast on the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, Turner Broadcasting Systems, PBS and internationally, states, "This is the first of its kind: a free television station where the public can go to find out about issues that are affecting wildlife and nature all around the planet through entertaining and inspirational short films, and in turn, support those heroic organizations and individuals that have dedicated their lives and energies toward saving wildlife and wild places." He further states, "In a climate where it is progressively more difficult to find on television relevant shows about problems affecting wildlife and nature, OdyseeTV tells stories that seldom make it to the small screen."

From eagles to cranes, moon bears to dolphins, wild stallions to gorillas, OdyseeTV is a bold concept whose time has come.
