The Nursing Home Compliant Center is initiating a national campaign focused on seeing to it that the family of a nursing home patient who has been admitted to a hospital ER, or ICU, and or who has died with the cause of death being sepsis, or septic shock gets compensated.

So what is sepsis? According to the CDC, "Sepsis is an illness that affects all parts of the body that can happen in response to an infection and can quickly become life-threatening. In severe cases of sepsis, one or more organs fail. In the worst cases, sepsis causes the blood pressure to drop and the heart to weaken, leading to septic shock. The Nursing Home Complaint Center says, "Based on our experience many nursing homes are short staffed nationwide, so they do not have adequate staffing levels to properly keep their patients clean. Without a diligent protocol to keep their patients clean nursing home residents can develop bed sores. Bed sores if left untreated can develop into sepsis, septic shock, and then the nursing home patient dies."
