NRCME Training Systems and Oakstone Publishing Partner to Train Medical Professionals for DOT Certification with NRCME Plus+© Online Training System

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Oakstone, one of the foremost providers of unbiased multimedia educational programs for healthcare professionals, and NRCME Training Systems, a leading provider of training programs for U.S. Department of Transportation examiners, have announced a strategic partnership to offer NRCME Plus+© Online Training System, an online program that helps medical professionals become certified under new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations required to perform physical exams on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

NRCME Plus+© Online Training System is specifically designed to satisfy the training prerequisites for medical professionals – including medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, chiropractic physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants – to sit for FMCSA's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) certification exam.  FMCSA sites for NRCME certification testing open December 17, 2012, so that medical professionals can qualify for this new certification.

This training system was developed by Dr. Clinton Smith, NRCME Training Systems' founder and one of the ten original consultants for FMCSA's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.  Dr. Smith teamed with Oakstone in offering the training system because of Oakstone's national visibility as an online educational resource and its status as an accredited medical education provider.

Diane Munson, President and CEO of Oakstone, shared that "Our venture is unique:  by combining Oakstone's reputation of delivering exceptional educational content with NRCME Training Systems' insight and experience with the DOT examiner needs and requirements, we are positioned to become the medical professionals' trusted educational resource."

In 2014 more than 12,000,000 CMV drivers will be required to get a physical by a FMCSA-certified medical examiner.  Medical professionals can be trained and register now to meet the upcoming demand for CMV driver exams.  More than 50,000 medical professionals need to be trained to support this demand.

Dr. Smith observed, "Medical professionals that receive the examiner certification early will have the opportunity to establish themselves as accredited providers and to promote their services to trucking firms, commercial and charter carriers, and other driver groups that will need to comply with the FMCSA's May 21, 2014 deadline."  Smith further noted that "those organizations and individual examiners currently performing these vital exams, by certifying early, will protect their position in their local market."
