WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Oct. 7, 2009 — In her new collection of poetry, "My Naked Self: My poetry: My heart & soul" (published by AuthorHouse), Brigitte Cinq-Mars writes about lessons learned, love, sorrow, death, divorce, faith, forgiveness and other universal motifs, examining her subject matter through the lens of personal experience.
With more than 60 poems divided into nine chapters, each with a different theme, Cinq-Mars deftly takes the reader through a range of emotions. Her poem, "Charity," featured below, comes at the end of the book and is included in the chapter, "Good Wishes":
Selfless giving,
Volunteering to help,
Whether if be family or friend,
Local or global,
It grounds us.
We are too often pre-occupied
With our daily tasks;
Charity reminds us to slow down
And appreciate our true reason for being:
To work together to improve the quality of life
Of each and every one of us.
We cannot progress
If we do not work together.
It brings balance to our world;
Each of us have something valuable to contribute
Whether it be money, time, talent or strength,
We are all needed in some way.
Charity teaches us humility.
It helps us break the perpetual motion of stress
Because when we give
We are inundated with a feeling of peace and joy.
Charity gives us a sense of worthiness,
And isn’t that what we’re all searching for?

Brigitte Cinq-Mars is an artist who utilizes the highly unique medium of nail polish for her work. She is the lead singer of a rock band and is fluently bilingual in French and English. "My Naked Self: My poetry: My heart & soul" is her first published book.
