Moms Can Now Join in on the Fun … and Experience Summer Weight Loss at Camp Pocono Trails

REEDERS, Pa., June 27, 2012 — This summer, Camp Pocono Trails — one of the most well-known weight-loss camps in the country — will once again welcome over 400 children, tweens, teens and young adults … but now moms can join in on the fun too.

Kids ages 7-19 will learn how to make healthier choices and incorporate exercise into their daily lives while building lifelong friendships in an empathetic and fun setting. The camp is now offering fitness and nutrition classes through its Mom's Camp program to assist mothers in encouraging their families to eat well and stay fit.

"Obesity among children (and adults) keeps increasing due to eating on-the-go and the decreased quality and nutritional value of packaged foods. In addition, people are more screen obsessed and more inactive than ever before," says Tony Sparber, camp founder and director.

Sparber continued, "Blaming restaurants, schools, the government, and electronic gadgets will not help our kids. Instead, it's time for parents to put love into action and take full responsibility for our children's health."

Sparber believes his tried-and-true methods, such as teaching sensible eating habits, portion control and setting realistic goals within the environment of a fun-filled summer camp, has helped "his kids" prevent serious health risks associated with obesity, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.

At Camp Pocono Trails, campers simultaneously build self-esteem and life-long friendships along the way. In addition, he cares deeply for his campers' well-being, health, and future. He's a hands-on owner with thousands of success stories.

Moms will partake in the endless activities the camp has to offer such as: personal training, fitness boot camp, water aerobics, tennis and canoeing. The skills taught in nutrition and cooking classes will help the moms encourage their families to eat well and stay fit.

Mom's Camp begins July 22nd and runs through August 15th. It costs $1300 per week, which includes food, board, and all amenities.

Moms are housed in more upscale cabins than campers but eat the same balanced, tasty meals and snacks as their kids in the dining hall.

"I loved the camp," says Kathy Henck, a mom of four in Sayville, N.Y. "It was like a vacation, but you're exercising, taking care of yourself and at the same time, supporting your kids."

Henck explains that sending her 16- and 7-year-old to sleep-away camp was more reassuring with her there. "It was the best of both worlds because they had freedom, but could see me when they wanted," she says.

More than one-third of children are overweight or obese, and studies suggest parents may contribute to the problem. Healthy eating starts at home.

According to Tony: "If you're serious about helping your child attain and maintain a trim and fit body, you must be the first one in your family to make the changes that will put all of you on track in this race for fitness. Whether you have a weight problem yourself or not, the way you live your life sets the bar for the lifestyle habits of your children."

Camp Pocono Trails is located on 350 private lakeside acres in Reeders, PA, approximately 100 miles from Manhattan and Philadelphia.
