Last Minute Holiday Shoppers – New Website Shows Price Drops

Stores are dropping prices on gadgets everywhere, and shoppers can hardly keep up

NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2008 — According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, "Analysts are predicting sharper price cuts on flat-panel televisions and Blu-ray players in the coming weeks." Price changes can be frustrating, and comparison shopping sites often don't show the latest price drops. Because prices are always changing, smart buyers need ways to make sure they're getting the best deal.

Internet analyst James Wallace, co-founder of free price information website PriceProtectr.com (http://www.priceprotectr.com), today announced the launch of a new service called LightningSale.com ).

"Lightning Sale focuses on price drops just for consumer electronics, so people can find what they're looking for fast," said Wallace.

LightningSale.com shows you price drops on popular consumer electronics items like HDTVs, gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, GPS units, digital cameras, camcorders, and memory storage devices. Users can see the biggest price drops on everything in the last 48 hours. LightningSale.com also assigns a "Lightning Score" to the deals based on how much you can save.

The service comes as consumer electronics are selling well in a tough economy. Last week NPD Group, a market research firm, reported that sales of video game consoles jumped 10 percent overall during November compared to last year. Sales of Nintendo's Wii more than doubled, reaching a record 2 million units.

Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) and Greenfield Online reported that 147,000 Blu-ray players were purchased during Thanksgiving week, a figure up by 300% over last year. The film "The Dark Knight" recently broke the one-day record for Blu-ray sales with over 600,000 sold. With HDTV sales projected to increase by the Consumer Electronics Association, LightningSale.com expects to help thousands of people save money.

"If someone is ready to buy, they need great price info," said Dave Cohen, LightningSale.com's tech guru and co-founder of Price Protectr. "People need to use LightningSale.com to buy at a great price. People don't have time to look at hundreds of websites. LightningSale.com does it for you, giving you a great shot at a better price. The savings are awesome."

LightningSale.com is powered by Price Protectr, a service that provides price alerts. Price Protectr's two-year track record of saving people over $2 million and covering almost $35 million in transactions is proof that the concept works, says Tim Tonella, another Price Protectr co-founder.

"We've seen price drops as much as 95 percent," said Tonella. "An $1,800 set of leather-bound books went on clearance for under $20. It sold out in minutes. Prices go up too, so lots of these price drops don't last long. It's important to act on the information quickly before the next price change."

"LightningSale.com is backed by Price Protectr. We have the most reliable service, favorable mentions by Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping, and recent coverage on The Today Show and Good Morning America," Wallace added. "If someone buys a Blu-ray player without using LightningSale.com, they're just throwing money away."
