Marine West 2011 to Be Held January 26-27 at Camp Pendleton, CA

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 8, 2010 — The 2011 edition of Marine West will be held during January 26-27 at Camp Pendleton, CA. The event has been considered one of America's most comprehensive annual military expositions since its founding in 1992. Its focus is on enhancing the fighting capabilities of this nation's "911 Force," the United States Marines as well as military forces of U.S. allies. The venue location will be Camp Pendleton's South Mesa Staff Noncommissioned Officers' Club.

The 2011 edition of the exposition will provide Marines and other military and civilian defense personnel with opportunities to interface with manufacturers who produce the best military hardware in the world. In addition to equipment demonstrations, videos and static displays, discussions will be held between the military personnel attending the event and industry representatives. Attendees will have opportunities to explain their unique requirements and offer suggestions for future generations of weapons and equipment. For the past 18 years, Marine West has contributed a unique dimension to the relationship between the defense industry and warfighters — including many recently back from Southwest Asia and other trouble spots, as well as many training and preparing to deploy for combat operations.

Displays at Marine West 2011 will present individual items of equipment and weapons, logistics support systems, communications equipment, and special operations systems as well as a wide array of other Marine Corps modernization assets. Among systems on display will be ones used to counter improvised explosive devices, which are being employed more and more frequently against U.S. and allied forces. Additionally, the displays will include weapons and equipment for counter-sniper operations, chemical and biological agent detection, facility and perimeter surveillance, and reconnaissance, among others.

Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps League and Marine Corps Systems Command are co-sponsors of Marine West 2011. Southern California's Camp Pendleton is one of the Marine Corps' largest and most important training bases. The Marine Corps League is a Congressionally chartered Marine veterans organization long noted for its support of the Corps. Marine Corps Systems Command has overall responsibility for assuring Marines have cutting-edge equipment and technology specifically designed for, or adapted to, the Corps' wide spectrum of intense performance demands in the rapidly changing face of modern combat operations.

All expo attendees will be required to have photo identification available when entering the base at Camp Pendleton and vehicles may be subjected to inspection. Registration will be on-site; however, Marines in uniform will not be required to register. There is no fee to attend the event.

On January 26, the first day of Marine West, a Commanders' Preview will be held from 8:00a.m. until 9:45a.m. All other attendees are invited to attend the opening ceremony from 9:45a.m.until 10:00a.m. The exposition area will be open from 10:00a.m. until 3:00p.m. on that first day. On the second day, January 27, the exposition will be open from 9:00a.m. until 3:00p.m.

On January 25, the day preceding opening of the exposition, the 2011 Marine West Golf Tournament will be held at the Pendleton Memorial Golf Course. The tournament supports activities of The Young Marines of the Marine Corps League and the U.S. Marines' Youth Foundation. It will be hosted by retired Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps H. G. Overstreet and actor R. Lee Ermey, well-known for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's film Full Metal Jacket and as host of the History Channel's hit show "Mail Call." Ermey is official spokesman for The Young Marines.
