Marine Military Expo Set for Camp Lejeune, NC, April 21 – 22

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2010 — Marine South 2010, one of the eastern United States' largest and most comprehensive military equipment expositions of the year, will be held at Camp Lejeune, NC, during April 21 – 22.

Marine South is produced for warfighters who employ combat equipment and systems in expeditionary warfare and training operations around the world. It showcases the latest in equipment and technology, and provides "previews" of what is being developed. Camp Lejeune has been home of the "Expeditionary Forces in Readiness" since 1941 and home to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and a number of other important combat units and other combat support and service support units.

Personnel from those organizations are often the first to respond to international crises. Many attending the expo will be deploying to combat zones soon, and a large number have recently returned from action in Iraq and Afghanistan. Marine South provides the end-users with close-up, hands-on perspectives of what leading defense companies from throughout the United States and allied nations are producing and developing in support of equipment modernization programs.

Marine South 2010 is sponsored by the Marine Corps League, a Marine Corps veterans' association, and co-sponsored by Marine Corps Systems Command and Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune. The event is endorsed by the Marine Corps Aviation Association.

The exposition is expected to attract several thousand military professionals, from all of the Armed Forces, including many who have been or are currently responsible for locating and engaging enemy forces in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world. Key decision-makers in the defense equipment and systems procurement chain are once again expected to attend Marine South to learn about the latest advances in equipment and what can be expected to be available to support and sustain combat operations in the near term.

Marine South presents static displays and presentations of a broad spectrum of small arms, crew-served weapons, indirect fire weapons, fire support coordination equipment, ground and air navigation systems, unmanned ground and air vehicles, and many other types of equipment. All items displayed by defense manufacturers are oriented toward improving the overall fighting capabilities of the fast-moving, forward-located Marine expeditionary air-ground task forces now engaged, or poised to engage, in quick-strike or long-term combat operations. Exhibits will feature equipment and systems used in every phase of ground and air combat, from pre-engagement planning and reconnaissance to close combat, long-range support, and sustained tactical operations, including force protection missions.

Attendees do not need to register in advance for Marine South 2010. Uniformed Marines may enter the exhibit areas without a registration badge. Other military personnel, civilians and industry representatives will need to register on-site and obtain a complimentary attendee badge during the registration open hours. There is no admission fee to attend the event.

The exhibit areas will be open for a Commanders' Preview from 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21. The opening ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. and the exhibit area will be open to all attendees on that day from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. On Thursday, April 22, the exhibit area will open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 3:00 p.m. Further information on the Marine Military Expositions is available at: http://www.marinemilitaryexpos.com
