Manzoni Vineyards Announces New Wine and New Winemaker

Santa Lucia Highlands' Estate Adds Pinot Gris to Line-Up and David Coventry to Cellar

MONTEREY, Calif., June 7, 2011 — Manzoni Vineyards, one of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation's smallest artisan producers, announced the hiring of David Coventry as consulting winemaker. A Monterey native, David has formerly worked with the Chalone, Cloninger, Morgan, and De Tierra labels. Owner / winegrower Mark Manzoni is very excited about the partnership: "I have known David for years — his reputation for crafting elegant, small-lot, site-specific Pinot and Chardonnay is unmatched locally."

Mr. Coventry's production responsibilities begin with the release of the winery's 2009 Estate Pinot Noir and the debut of a new item in the Manzoni portfolio — a Pinot Gris. Mark Manzoni comments, "the crisp, 'Alsatian' style of our cool climate Pinot Gris is a nice counterpart to our richer Chardonnay releases — it is a natural extension of our wine list." Only 125 cases were made of the Manzoni 2008 "Franscioni Vineyard" Pinot Gris; it has a suggested retail of $20. The Manzoni releases are available to fine wine retailers and on-premise accounts in California through Frank-Lin Distribution and nationally through select wholesalers.
