LUBBOCK, Texas, Oct. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Recent studies from the National Association of Realtors show that home owners have lower divorce rates, a higher likelihood for their children to have better grades and a greater potential for attending college.
During last month's Texas Association of Realtors (TAR) annual convention, that research was driven home and Lubbock was named as one of the top most-improved markets nationally.
"We talk about the American Dream quite often in our business," said Debora Perez-Ruiz of MoVaDe Realty and president of the Lubbock Association of Realtors (LAR). "But for quite some time now, it's not just a dream in Lubbock – it can be a reality for so many."
With one of the nation's lowest interest rates – currently under 3.5 percent – home ownership in Lubbock, Perez-Ruiz said, is at an all-time best. Over the last six months, she added, not only are housing sales and new construction numbers up; but employment in Lubbock also is on the rise.
"And it's not just a good time to buy a home," she said. "It's a great time to sell. We're in what's known as a stable market – where it's truly a win/win for both buyers and sellers."
In fact, Perez-Ruiz added, Lubbock is up by nearly 19 percent over last year in home sales. "And last year was a good year, too."
Perez-Ruiz said she was especially proud to be a part of this year's convention as the TAR and Mexico's real estate association signed a cross-border, business-building partnership agreement, which provides for cooperation and collaboration in real estate throughout the region.
Coby Crump, of Exit Realty, and LAR president-elect, explained that the partnership highlights the strategic importance of Mexico in the real estate community and represents a commitment by Realtor organizations and the AMPI (Mexico's organization) to share information, marketing techniques, educational content and best practices.
"In recent years, we've seen increasing interest in cross-border real estate opportunities, both Mexicans purchasing property here in the U.S. and Americans purchasing property in Mexico," Crump said. "These partnerships will help Texas Realtors and AMPI members work together to best serve those clients.
