Local Dallas Preschool Offers Programs That Decrease Likelihood of Bullying in Future

Director of Brilliance Preschool & Academy Explains How Certain Academic Programs Prevent Bullying Beginning at Early Age

DALLAS, April 18, 2011 — Research has shown that the types of children more at risk of becoming bullies often have poor problem solving skills, low academic performance, negative attitudes, and lack social skills, among other things. Brilliance Preschool & Academy in Dallas offers a curriculum that combats these issues and attempts to prevent bullying before children even reach grade school.

Communication is an important skill for children to learn at an early age and may prevent future bullying situations. Teaching children effective communication skills not only helps develop vocabulary, comprehension and enhances listening skills, but it also helps children communicate with one another in a way that is positive and encouraging.

Critical Thinking and problem solving are important skills to develop as early as preschool. When children participate in hands-on activities that expose them to various situations, it teaches children to observe, analyze, draw conclusions, and develop solutions to problems, which becomes helpful when faced with a challenge such as bullying.

Character building is a key component in a child's early development. Through activities that encourage collaboration and cooperation, children are taught how to be part of a team, as well as a team leader. Through character building activities, children develop self-discipline and empathy.

Confidence is essential for children to develop at an early age. When emphasis is placed on fostering self-esteem, integrity and confidence, children often thrive in challenging situations. When faced with bullying situations, children often have the confidence to notify an authority and understand that they do not deserve to be treated that way.

Lastly, Creativity in children is enhanced when they are placed in environments at an early age in which they are able to exercise their imagination. Since creativity increases when children are active learners, encouraging imaginative play beginning in preschool provides children with a foundation that encourages them to take the skills they've learned early on and apply them to various life situations, including bullying situations in the future.
