Lightspeed Design, Inc. / DepthQ to Feature Newly Patented Passive Polarization for 3D Digital Cinema at ShowEast in Miami – Booth 818

BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 25, 2011 — Lightspeed Design, Inc. / DepthQ® will be featuring the DepthQ® Polarization Modulator for 3D Digital Cinema at ShowEast, Booth 818, in Miami, October 25-27. The modulator utilizes a newly patented technology developed by Lightspeed's partner LC-Tec Displays AB, which holds the US Patent No. 8023052. Lightspeed is the exclusive, worldwide distributor of all DepthQ® products.

When combined with a silver screen, the DepthQ® Polarization Modulator allows your digital cinema projector to display stunning, Hollywood-quality, stereoscopic 3D films, viewable using inexpensive passive circular polarized glasses. To date, it has been successfully reviewed by executives from six major Hollywood studios and is listed on the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Approved Equipment List. Units are currently deployed in the United States in Washington, Alaska, Michigan and California as well as internationally in India, Dubai, Germany, Israel, Australia, UK, Turkey, Latin America, China and the Philippines. Interest in the product continues to grow as orders flow in from around the world.

DepthQ® meets Hollywood's demanding image quality standards by precisely and efficiently varying the polarity of light passing through it in perfect synch with the "triple-flash" of left and right eye images. An unprecedented symmetrical 50 microsecond switching time between the eyes ensures bright, low-crosstalk operation and makes DepthQ® the world's fastest polarization switch for digital cinema. DepthQ® is 7 times faster than other digital cinema technologies that boast a 350 microsecond switch.

Chris Ward, President of Lightspeed Design, Inc., said, "Most 3D digital projectors 'triple flash' left and right eye images at 144Hz. DepthQ® can deliver 400Hz and maintain the same image quality. Directors like James Cameron and Peter Jackson are now making films that will need to be projected at 192Hz or higher. Projector manufacturers are challenged to keep up with the growing demands of these cinema visionaries. Our modulator can easily provide for this higher frame rate with more than 50% headroom left untapped. DepthQ®, as it is now, will be able to accommodate filmmakers' dreams, satisfy movie-goers' ever-growing expectations and support advances in projector technology far into the future."

Dr. Jesper Osterman, Chief Technology Officer of LC-Tec, says, "We are very glad to see our novel polarization modulation technology being implemented and commercialized in the DepthQ® product. The technology has been fine-tuned and optimized in close cooperation with our partner Lightspeed Design, Inc. to meet the highest demands of today's and tomorrow's 3D cinema applications. Thanks to our complete in-house manufacturing line in Sweden, we have full control of each and every component through final assembly with ongoing support from our sophisticated R&D laboratories."
