KIWI Magazine and the School Nutrition Association Champion Healthy School Lunches with National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day 2015

Schools nationwide open cafeteria doors to promote healthy eating

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — On Oct. 14 2015, during National School Lunch Week, parents will join their children in school cafeterias across the country for a day of lunch and learning at KIWI magazine's National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day. The national program, in partnership with the School Nutrition Association, opens the lines of communication between school administrators and parents regarding healthy lunches. Participating schools have the opportunity to showcase menus and provide parents with more information about school meals, gardens, and other initiatives related to healthy eating.

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day allows parents to learn more about lunchtime as the push for healthy school lunches continues to be a topic of interest everywhere. Along with First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative, the United States Department of Agriculture's Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act continues to highlight the importance of school meals.

With KIWI's National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day, parents learn about what it takes to create a nutritious meal and have the chance to discuss with their children the importance of healthy eating.

"National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day has generated an enthusiastic response from schools across the country," said Andrea Barbalich, KIWI's editorial director. "We are thrilled to see so many schools making nutrition a top priority for their students."

As part of the program's focus on encouraging healthy eating, one of the sponsors of National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day, the Whole Kids Foundation, is offering three $1,000 grants to schools to help improve their lunch programs.
