'King Ruma and the Well of Souls': An Egyptian King Battles the Underworld in New Epic Adventure

LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 28, 2009 — From within the dark, dank tombs to the regal heights of Egyptian splendor, armchair explorers can prepare for an epic journey into kingdoms unknown. Lee WinterThorne invites all who dare enter an otherworldly adventure to escape into her new book, "King Ruma and the Well of Souls: Book 1" (published by AuthorHouse).

From the first chapter, WinterThorne's novel weaves the ancient threads of Egyptian history and lore into a legendary tale of good versus evil. Readers first encounter young King Ruma in a dark, damp tomb. An unwitting explorer trapped in his own dream, he is soon pulled down into a well of souls, alive with the terrible wail of malevolent mummies seeking to avenge their unrest.

King Ruma is awakened by the persistent voice of an unknown servant girl, Rusunna, whose mysterious presence and ethereal beauty captivates readers to the very end. As he struggles to shirk the bonds of his disturbing nightmare, the duties of his kingdom come into play. Here, readers are treated to the majestic world of ancient Egyptian royalty.

The palace characters come to life as the story unfolds: King Ruma's doting and suffering mother, Karatanu; his loyal servant, Ru-T; his childhood friends, Khen-ti and Ikama. Each finds their place in the King's calling as a hero called to salvage the sacred peace of the underworld. Among friends lurk unscrupulous betrayers such as the kingdom's priest, Khneraheb, and the astrologer, S-Shem.

WinterThorne elevates the tale with a vengeful force with the introduction of Queen Shesata, a woman whose love was taken from her by King Ruma's father. Sewing a piece of her own heart into that of her fallen love, the warlord Westcar, Queen Shesata brings him to life and seeks to obliterate the wall between the world of the living and the dead.

King Ruma and his most faithful friends embark on a journey that brings them face-to-face with savage beasts thirsty for blood and loyal to their dark cause. Far from the lush extravagances of his palace life, King Ruma must rise to the challenge that his father laid before him on his death. Ruma and his friends are forced to quickly adapt to the changing environment of the underworld. Along the way, they encounter new faces and make important choices that could alter the bond between the living and the dead forever.

"'King Ruma and the Well of Souls' combines the vast history and enchantment of Egypt with the thrill of storytelling," WinterThorne writes. "Ancient Egypt comes to life along with beautiful and complex creatures in the race to save the underworld."
