Each is from a different specialty category and has the potential of reaching $100,000."
Game-worn apparel from a Who's Who of basketball legends is led by Lot #152, a pair of sneakers that Michael Jordan wore during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The historical kicks were signed and gifted to the team's ballboy in the locker room following the medal ceremony. The recipient, who has owned the sneakers for the past 31 years, provided a detailed letter of provenance that will convey to the new owner. The shoes are entered with a $50,000 reserve.
While on the subject of basketball royalty, there's no overlooking three other all-time greats whose game-worn jerseys are among the auction's coveted Premier Lots. The auction will open with Wilt Chamberlain's game-used Philadelphia Warriors home uniform from the 1961-62 NBA season in which "The Stilt" set the NBA single-game scoring record with his legendary 100-point performance. Immediately following as Lot #2 is Bill Russell's game-used Boston Celtics road jersey from the early 1960s, when Russell and the Celtics towered won eight consecutive Championships. To Grey Flannel's knowledge, the jersey in their auction is one of only two of Russell's "BOSTON" green road jerseys known to exist, and is the only one available for public sale. Add to this rich lineup of hardcourt treasures Lot #173, Julius "Dr. J" Erving's game-used ABA New York Nets jersey from the 1975-76 final season of the ABA. Reserve on each jersey: $10,000.
Moving to the gridiron, Lot #174, a photo-matched, game-used and autographed home uniform worn by "The Golden Arm," Johnny Unitas, shows extensive game use and has undergone numerous vintage repairs. It is more than plausible that this jersey was used for multiple seasons including the 1958 double-overtime NFL Championship game against the New York Giants, known as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Reserve: $10,000.
From the world of professional golf comes Lot #283, the actual golf ball used by Tiger Woods to hole out and win the 2005 Masters. On the first hole of a playoff against Chris DiMarco, Woods birdied the ball for the win, setting off a giant fist pump and a raucous celebration with his caddie, Steve Williams. In the midst of the celebration, Williams reached into the hole, pulled the ball out, and threw it into the stands where the consignor caught it. The ball was widely publicized and it has remained in the consignor's possession to this day. Reserve: $5,000.
A special section of the auction is devoted to testosterone-charged memorabilia from some of Hollywood's most memorable films. Highlights include: Lot #315, Kirk Douglas' screen-used Roman sword and scabbard prop from "Spartacus," Lot #321, Tom Cruise's racing helmet from the 1990 stock car drama "Days of Thunder," and Lot #322, Arnold Schwarzenegger's screen-worn tactical vest from "Commando.". Each of these three items has a $2,500 reserve.
