MANASSAS, Va., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Renowned constitutional attorney Michael Farris will debate 12-term Virginia Delegate Robert G. ("Bob") Marshall (R-Prince William) about the effort to invoke Article V of the U.S. Constitution to rein in the federal government by proposing constitutional amendments.  The Manassas Tea Party is hosting this free, public debate at Northern Virginia Community College's Colgan Theater, 6901 Sudley Road, in Manassas from 7-9 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 28.

"The Convention of States Project offers the only effective way to restore our federal system," said Farris.  "The Article V convention mechanism is the procedure the Founding Fathers gave us to reassert the powers reserved to the states and the people under the Tenth Amendment."

An Article V application has been passed by Alaska, Florida and Georgia this past spring, but it failed on the floor of the Virginia House of Delegates earlier this year.  Delegate Marshall has been Virginia's most outspoken legislative opponent of the Virginia effort. The debate will give Virginians a serious discussion on Article V and why the Framers unanimously adopted it into the Constitution. America's founders gave citizens to restrain the federal government beast when it inevitably became uncontrollable.  In fact, it is our moral obligation to use it.
